About the Artist
In 1970 after three years of Peace Corps Volunteer work in the Philippines Kirkell went to Java and studied textile design and batik under Indonesian batik master Bambang Oetoro. This was a direct link to his first serious study of an art form and the wisdom of learning within a 600 year tradition.
- 1983-1991: Working as an artist and studio director at Kirkell / Poindexter Studios in New York City he worked with two exceptional silk artists. The studio art work blossomed showing at major New York galleries as well as commissioned work selling throughout Europe and the United States.
- 1994-1999: Moving to Israel, working in the vineyards Kirkell created an international exhibition called “The Growth of The Vineyard, The Life of The Torah (Bible) opening at the Yeshiva Museum in New York City’ in 2001
- Currently Jamie is living in Sarasota Florida, exhibiting internationally and has just opened his new studio at: 3214 Village Lane, Sarasota, Florida
